Das zehnte Album der Manic Street Preachers und der Nachfolger der fantastischen "Journal for Plague Lovers" (2009) - doch warte! Die Band selbst besteht darauf, dass "Postcards from a Young Man" nicht ein auf ihr bestes Album der Dekade folgt sondern auf "Send Away the Tigers", ihr von aller Seiten (wohl zu Unrecht) gefeiertes Comebackalbum von 2007, welche sie zurück in den Mainstream katapultierte und hunderttausende Kopien in Grossbritannien verkaufte. Leider übernimmt das neue Album alle Schwächen von "Send Away the Tigers": die oft ungelenken Texte, die scheinbar schon tausendfach da gewesenen Melodien, der Hang zum Pathos. Nur wenige Songs wie "Golden Platitudes", ein Beatles-esker Protestsong der Sozialisten gegen Tony Blairs New Labour (mit der Unterstützung eines Gospelchors!), "Some Kind of Nothingness" - ein unverschämt kitschiges Duett mit Echo-and-the-Bunnymen-Frontmann Ian McCulloch - oder "The Future Has Been Here 4 Ever", ein in dieser Form tatsächlich von den Manics noch nie dagewesenes, von Bassist Nicky Wire gesungenes Prosastück, tanzen aus der Reihe. Wo ich bei "Send Away the Tigers" aufrundete, runde ich hier ab. Ein gutes Album, selbstredend, aber zu wenig von den Manic Street Preachers.

Bin kein Kenner von MSP. Dieses Album hier gefällt mir aber ausserordentlich gut.

Die Manics bleiben ihrer Selbstverstümmelungs-Attitüde treu und liefern nach dem großartig poppigem "Send Away the Tigers" einen klebig-belangloses Nachfolger ab. Klingt oft wie ein lauer Aufguss mit B-Material der Sessions zu o.g. Album.

Ausnahmen bilden die letzten 4 Titel, die wesentlich kantiger klingen und auf weiteres Material hoffen lassen.

Da steh ich im krassen Gegensatz zum MSP-Jünger felixman.
Ich mag am liebten "This is my truth ..." und "Send away the tigers".
Das melodiöse bringt aus meiner Sicht die larmoyante Stimme von JDB am besten zur Geltung.

leider hab ich auf dem Album noch keinen richtigen Hammer entdecken können.

am besten gefällt mir: The descent.
